Race Control to add camera on starter

After Scott Dixon’s unwarranted penalty marred an otherwise successful Milwaukee IndyFest, INDYCAR Race Control is taking a step to make sure it won’t happen again.

Starting with this Saturday’s Iowa Corn Indy 250 (9 pm ET, NBC Sports Network), a video camera will be fixed on the starter to capture green flag starts and restarts. Those will be recorded and synced up with the other video in the system, which eliminates the need to manually sync with Live Timing and Scoring.

Dixon was tagged with a drive-through penalty last week at Milwaukee for jumping a restart on Lap 103, but thanks to a computer problem that caused the Timing/Scoring and replay machine clocks (which used to be synced up daily during race weekends) to be 36 seconds off, Barfield and his team reviewed the wrong restart.

Dixon was knocked back to 17th following the penalty and eventually finished 11th. He dropped one spot to third in the championship as a result.
