Report: Sarah Fisher finally bags engine deal with Honda

INDYCAR fans, your long national nightmare will soon be over: Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing reportedly has an engine deal.

Curt Cavin of The Indianapolis Star tweeted earlier this morning that an SFHR pact with Honda was “imminent” and now Autoweek is reporting that it’s basically done after Rahal Letterman Lanigan were unable to put together a program for the start of 2012 with GP2 racer Luca Filippi (thanks @indy44 for the heads-up). That means RLL’s second Honda is now heading for SFHR and its driver, Firestone Indy Lights champ Josef Newgarden of Tennessee.

Fisher’s situation had been garnering an increased amount of attention in recent weeks, with bloggers and mainstream media chiming in on the matter. Things had been getting iffy for the team in regards to making the grid for next month’s season-opener at St. Petersburg, as all three engine makers hadn’t given SFHR a motor for various reasons.

SFHR won last season at Kentucky Speedway with Ed Carpenter, who has since moved on to his own team as a driver/owner.
