Italian racer joins Conquest for two events

Francesco Dracone to drive at Mid-Ohio and Sonoma

With Brazil’s Mario Romancini out of the No. 34 Conquest Racing machine due to a lack of sponsorship, Italian driver Francesco Dracone will step into the ride for the next two IZOD IndyCar Series events at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course (Sun., 2:30 p.m. ET on Versus) and Infineon Raceway (Aug. 22).

Dracone, a veteran of the Italian Formula Three and European Formula 3000 series, passed his IndyCar rookie test last week at Mid-Ohio. He will be backed by Italian food company La Pasta and European aviation company Halkin Jet.

“I’m very excited to be making my IZOD IndyCar Series debut this weekend at Mid-Ohio with Conquest Racing,” said Dracone in a team statement. “I had my first taste of an IndyCar last week during a test session and it was a great experience. I want to use these two races with Conquest Racing as preparation for a possible full season next year.

“I had a good test with the team and really enjoyed working with everyone. I’m looking forward to this weekend to get back in the car and to continue my learning experience.”

Last season, Dracone finished seventh in the Euro F3000 standings after finishing 21st, 23rd and 17th in the previous three seasons. He has not claimed any wins or podium finishes in his European racing career.
